The Gardens: Celebrating Tasmania’s Botanical Treasure 1818 – 2018
The people, plants and passion that have been the story of the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens over the first 200 years are brought to life in the photographs and snippets of text featured in this ‘coffee table’ book. As a photo-dominated production, the reader can open the book to any page and enjoy the images and text.
Public submissions are central to this book. They range from Rachel Brown’s reflections on the French Memorial Fountain, created by her father Stephen Walker, to the recollections of Margaret Bloomfield, whose parents lived in the Friend’s Cottage during the Second World War. Many Tasmanians (and mainlanders) also contributed stories, photos and memories that have been included – as have quotes from prominent Tasmanians, which appear throughout the book.
This is a book to make the reader smile. It reminds us of why we cherish the Gardens.
The profits from the sale of this book will go towards a fund to future proof The Gardens Seedbank collections.
